One two-month voyage circling Australia has been cancelled following the tragic passing of an senior lady who was stranded by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and returned after some time after the personnel became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier technical problems".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an latest statement, and said they had "issued a order to the Commander" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.

The ship first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Family Reaction

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the ship left the location after an planned outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking group.

"Based on limited details we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She continued that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Mum's being".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the uphill trek," she explained.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the boat left, seemingly without performing a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or not long after, mum died, alone."

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with investigators to aid their inquiry".

He stated that the organization was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the family.

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 crew, according to official data. It was purpose-built to access distant areas of Australia's coastline and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on shore trips.
